CFV Locals Report - Balloon Party

Well this was an interesting day.  A little bit of cool mixed in with a bit of derp and dickbutt while there were moments of salt to be had.

...so like any other weekend.  BA-DUM-PISH!

Actually my sodium levels were relatively low with only a couple instances where I got flat out annoyed, though given the circumstances its understandable.   In regards to locals itself we had about 6 people present, so there was an actual tourney to be had!  Yay!  Everyone also had a Legion deck!  Yay!  I also bought some boxes of BT17 and did well, so I can't complain about any lack of a good haul.  The Great and Dragnewt in th same box is pretty legit.  As for the tournament it was a best of three so I decided to play Bluish Flame Liberators which is arguably my best deck;

Round 1 - Liberators vs Kagero (2-0)

Megamonkey had managed to scrounge up a decent The Great/Pain Laser Dragon/Dragnewt and wouldn't you know it we were paired up R1.  I don't remember the details of these games a great deal other than in one game I flip a crit after using Prominence Glare's skill and win the game there while the other he had a piss poor hand and I didn't give him a chance to get back into the game.

Round 2 - Liberators vs Regalia (2-0)

I lent Derrick my Yggdrasil/Minerva so I know exactly what I'm up against and in both games rush him before he's able to properly set up, stockpile 0s for when Yggdrasil hit the board and finished off with Glare's skill.

Round 3 - Liberators vs Deletors (2-1)

These games more or less came down to me being able to ride after I got Deleted or not.  If I could, then I was fine.  If not then the amount of advantage lost was too great.  Game 1 and Game 3 came down to me being able to pull off Glare's skill and him not being able to heal out of it (this happened in G2 and I lost because of it).

Final Round - Liberators vs Witches (2-1)

It's my first time playing against Rati.dek and I already hate it with a burning passion.  The swapping my RGs with Triggers wouldn't be too bad if I had Prominence Glare in play as I could sack those off to get new RGs, but I never saw the bloody thing in Game 1 and 2.  I rush and win Game 1, lose Grade 2 because I couldn't get to Glare and in Game 3 I'm Gradelocked for 7 plus turns.  While this does keep him from Legioning and therefore my VG never goes to -7k power, it's still ass in terms of how much advantage I'm losing which starts to get me annoyed to the point I tell Woodhouse to shut up, as his voice can literally piss me off.  I hang on and keep in the fight to the point that I'm at 5 damage, have only 2 cards in play and one card in hand, a Regulation Aglovale.  The game literally came down to what I was going to draw and in my moment of true peril...I rip a Prominence Glare off the top!  RIDE LE VANGUARD!

Oh man I was hyped.  I NEEDED to draw Glare at that moment and he came for me in the clutch!  I Legion, putting back my heals, a crit and an Aglovale from my Drop Zone as I had none in the deck as Legion Mates and decide that I have to yolo and attempt to get off Explosion Blue which given the circumstances were very, very slim;

-1 Regulation Aglovale was damage checked and 1 was in Drop Zone.  Factor the 1 in my hand that meant no copies could be called from the deck to fish for a G3 to discard.
-2 Josephus were in the drop zone and one was in play, meaning the chance of hitting one off of Glare's call skill and drawing a Grade 3 to discard was extremely low.

I call Aglovale and have Glare kill off my on field Josephus to look at the top 4 for a call and I see a Ketchgal Liberator, who I immediately call.  Ketchgal goes off and one of those 3 cards happens to be the last Josephus in the deck, who I call.  Everyone is watching as my opponent cuts the deck and I put my hand on the deck as this draw would literally determine the outcome of the fight.  I pick up the card, flip it around for him to see and scream "EXPLOSION BLUE!!!" for I had drawn a Grade 3 off the top.  Glare's skill goes off, giving him a +1 Crit and the Glory Malestrom effect and I attack to my opponent's triggerless hand, flipping a Crit in the process for massive overkill.

Gentlemen, that was some straight up, anime level bullshit right there.  Gaillard and Aichi would have been proud if they existed.

The tournament ended after that and I got first place, won a Blaster Joker Mat while also picking up said guy as after today I'm swapping my Liberators with Megamonkey's Star Vaders.  This was not before we had a rematch after Locals where we had a grindy G1 that I won with Glare, a Game 2 where I couldn't close out the game and a final game where Monkey was gradelocked.

Props
-Got to play with Libs in a tourney and won
-Finished Musketeers, just have to wait on Ebay orders
-I'm about 5 cards short of having Joker/Dancer done
-I won despite being Gradelocked and got justice in GLORIOUS ANIMU FASHION.  Ironically enough it was against an otaku.

Slops
-Gradestuck fucking sucks

CFV Locals Report - Making Due

First post of the year and we're going to kick it off with what's going to honestly be a short post as Locals as of late has been...underwhelming.  We've had 4 person turnouts for the last while and I'm really hoping this changes as our Vanguard Locals for the majority of last year was actually worth going to as we had a few decent players worth playing against (and a lot of bad players that you generally want to avoid unless you're paired up with them).  You'd think if people went to the trouble of buying out our entire stock of Shadow Paladin Extra Boosters on set release then they'd at least show up to Locals once in a while.

Also about the whole buying out every pack of X set on the day of the release; as much as I want to say doing that is scummy as it screws everyone else out of a chance to build the deck...this is a game where alot of people do in fact place themselves first and everyone else is an afterthought, so I'd say it's a case of the kettles calling the pots black.  If Tramps only had 3 Genesis EBs when I was present and buying all 3 was within my budget at the time, would I do it?  Probably and I know other people in that position would do the same.  The problem really is that Tramps' owner doesn't think CFV sells so he never orders more than just the initial shipment.  If we actually had routine stock, there would be no problem.

I digress, onto the tournament itself.  As it was short I don't remember the order of the rounds.  Just the results.

Yggdrasil vs Revengers (2-0)

Incoming Rant unrelated to this match;

This is 2015.  Raging Form Dragon isn't good anymore.  Revengers have evolved to being more focused on consistent tempo plays and RFD doesn't help this.  He's become nothing more than a sack card that steals games.  And yes I still do believe he's a sack card.  Cards can be bad, see less play or be straight up power crept out of the game but they are still bullshit sack cards that steal games.  Look at Yu-Gi-Oh! and the myrad of cards that despite seeing little play are still fucking dumb with BLS and Honest being prime examples.  BLS saw no play for the majority of 2013 and half of 2014 yet ask many a (good) player what one card they would have loved to see banned because of its ability to steal games that someone did not deserve to win even though it was irrelevant in the format.  That's right.  Sack Luster Soldier.

Don't get me wrong, Raging Form is no BLS, but do you see what I'm getting at?

"Well it helped me won so it's good."

No.  That's a fucking terrible philosophy and any player with an understanding of card games KNOWS why it's bad.

End Rant.

Now in regards to this match, I thrash him because Dimension Police are cheese incarnate.  Wait what?  I'm playing Yggdrasil?  Eh, same thing.

Yggdrasil vs Glendios (2-0 or 2-1)

I forget alot of this, other than he kept locking Prayer Angel instead of my G2s.  I think I lose one to just not drawing well, a weakness of Genesis with its lack of draw power.

Yggdrasil vs Shotgun Blow/Wild Rush/Skybeat (1-2)

This one I remember because it's Megamonkey and he generally tries to make Vanguard games more technical, applying card gaming theory to his plays like I've tried.  That and he was playing a deck I literally threw together the night before the tournament and well, it worked.  I won G1 with a 50k Yggdrasil at 4 damage, brick game 2 and Game 3 I get rushed with a weak hand.  After that round I got the bye and that was the tournament.  I ended up tied for first and get a Thing Saver Mat (while pulling a TSD) for Cobb and then went to Monkey's place for Smash and lulz.  Apparently I'm a "little beech" at Smash but know what?

PEW PEW PEW MOTHERFUCKERS!

Also to hell with for glory.  Gimmicks and Items forever <3

Props
-Yay a tournament
-Finished 3 decks

Slops
-Despite being able to use G-Assist, I still lost.  I'm beginning to think that even with it, the sheer loss in advantage from using G Assist when playing a deck without inherent draw power will result in the game becoming out of reach.
