Feb 24-25/2018 Locals Report - Wet on Wet

Haven't done one of these for a while though truthfully speaking it's been kind of hard to.  There's only so much I can gleam out of what is basically a 6-10 person locals on a good day and the quality of players to boot.  Save for when three specific people show up, they're not going to be competitive in the least.

But hey I can try I guess?

Vanguard

We also didn't get Star Gate in so I couldn't pick up commons/rares for Victor which made me sad.  We also didn't have an actual tournament so I just played a series of one off fuck all games. I remember using Blusha against Messiah and either losing on the Neo Harmonics turn or on the following turn because I used up my hand against it and couldn't stride afterwards.  Then I used Blusha against Deletors and got pushed very close to death but because I went first, denied him multiple CB and drew into 2 heals while making a board I was able to use double Antero to not get killed and promptly won off of Velhemina's GB4.

After that I borrowed a friend's Overlord list and tried to play it well, but when the build you're playing is bad you've gotta do cringy things to win.  I still won because Overlord is not a complicated deck (though alot of people seem to enjoy fucking up with it) but yeah, uneventful locals.  NEXT.

Yu-Gi-Oh!

A friend linked me to an OCG Red-Eyes Black Dragon deck that topped something somewhere and I really wanted to play it but the lack of Japan's good cards killed that dream and having just sold Trickstar so I'd have funds for Victor my options were kind of limited (course I knew this would be the case when I chose to keep up multiple VG decks at the expensive of keeping up with YGO.  Only difference is unlike some people I'm not going to constantly bitch about not having any good cards in either game) and as the result I played one of the few complete decks I had in Weather Painters.

Why yes.  I do in fact hate everyone and everything.  Thanks for asking!

Anyway today ended up being 3 rounds meaning once I got bodied and knocked out after 2nd round I could peace out and at least say I gave it my all;

Round 1 - Weather Painter vs 60 Card Zombie Sworn (2-1)

Game 1 - Huh.  Using Effect Veiler on Unizombie really hurts.  Especially if it's their Normal Summon for the turn.  Also having Ash Blossom for Brilliant Fusion (you heard me.  My deck may a turd but I'm running good cards that make it a golden turd) also helps in slowing someone down.  Unfortunately I didn't draw anything to capitalize on turning the 60 card brick into an actual 60 card brick and after a while died from him eventually hitting a Grass and getting started.

Game 2 - I opened a reasonable start with Snowy Canvas and a monster to work with and skillfully managed to disrupt and grind my opponent down to the point that I was able to out advantage and win.

And by that I mean he couldn't mill Fairy Tail - Snow that game if he was being held at gunpoint.  His RNG was that shit.

Game 3 - I Veiler a Unizombie again and forget what else happens other than he doesn't have a response to any of my Normal Summons and I'm able to start snowballing through the use of my Canvases.  I sloooooooooooooooooowly kill him.

Round 2 - Weather Painter vs Mek-Knight (2-1)

Game 1 - He Solemn Judgement'd my Valhalla.  I kill him a few turns later through straight beatdown and timely disruptions because my cards may be smol but I can deal 4000 quick enough.

Game 2 - And then I realized just how terrible this matchup is because my deck is about Column placement and naturally aids him.  He also had Kaiju for days to disrupt my board and because I'm never able to establish control the game just spyrals and I lose.  I tried way too hard to play around his deck last game and it caused me to make some questionable plays with this deck.

Game 3 - I decide "fuck it" and just play my normal game.  Turns out it worked as I actually drew decent backrow and despite him having Kaiju, he only had the one and I was able to keep doing my thing and once Weather Painter gets rolling it's pretty hard to stop.

Unless you have Evenly Matched.  This deck loses HARD to that.  Thankfully none of the players who own Evenly were playing today :3

Round 3 - vs Odd-Eyes Magicians (2-1)

Game 1 - Anti-Spell is one hell of a drug.

Game 2 - Anti Spell is one hell of a drug, except for when you draw no monsters for many turns and by the time you're able to start making a board they draw the Cosmic Cyclone, flip double Spiral Strike and OTK the shit out of you.

Game 3 - Anti-Spell is one hell of a drug, especially when you've got Rainy Canvas to bounce back the S/T they set so that they can never use their spells and traps against you.  I almost punted the game however when I beat over a Darkwurm and he had Astrograph Sorcerer and Chronograph in hand and somehow an Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon appeared but since he didn't own any good link Monsters the best he could do was make Flare Metal which I bounced back with Thunder Canvas and continued on my way.

And that was that.  No top cut happened so I finished undefeated at our 6 person locals.

Holy fucknuckles I am high as a kite right now.

Props
-Picked up some swag to build Dino Dolls and Zefra
-Zefra and World Chalice topped YCS Bochum
-World Chalice won
-I played Weather Painters

Slops
-I PLAYED WETER PANTERS
-The World Chalice deck that won was really greedy now that I've had time to think on it.  I get why he was playing EVA and Rescue Ferret but those cards have always added to the deck's potential to brick (and WC can brick REALLY badly) and let's be honest; the guy won alot of his Dicerolls.  World Chalice is the type of deck where your list could be good, bad or Skull and you'll win a majority of your games if you go first.  That's just how the deck plays.  The guy's list will be netdecked and played around but but as someone who prefers consistency over greed, I think I'm ultimately going to take a pass on it.  Ferret in particular doesn't seem to really do anything more other than just be another extender that requires you to likely have Saryuja or Firewall Dragon in play which in my opinion makes him a win more.  That's why he ran it as a one of and I'm willing to bet it barely comes up.
