Cardfight!! Vanguard V - Episode 10 Review

It was sadly a matter of time before we started getting into the PSY-Qualia nonsense.  Hopefully this time around they'll be able to pull off the supernatural shit right with Vanguard as the later seasons of OG and G just became discount Yu-Gi-Oh! but worse.

"This is for G-BT13!"

Anyway this episode focuses on the fight between Aichi and Leon which has the unfortunate job of trying to top last week's battle.  It doesn't quite do it as we see less technical play aside from Leon not giving Aichi something to kill with BB's on ride and we also see the latter make some questionable plays (in one scene we see his hand with 2 Akane and more than enough Counterblast to use them in order to call out a full board and he calls Gallatin instead) but manage to not get punished for it thanks to flipping triggers as the plot demands.

Tidal Assault's Origin Rare is gonna be pricey.

The main thing of this episode is we start seeing some elements of the PSY-Qualia plot which if people don't remember (and I don't blame you) is that it allows the person who has the ability to connect with their cards on a spiritual level and perform feats such as getting an edgelord aura, glowy eyes, the ability to see the future, fix your deck draws and survive getting Reversed plus other nonsense as the story goes on.  In this case we see that Leon's cards act out his commands without him having to say anything and Aichi does the same for a moment?  I'm sure I'll get ragged on for my complaining but honestly speaking VG works better when it's a down to earth Card Game anime and when the OG series focused on the not fantasy bullshit it was really good.  I fear that when we start getting into the discount Yu-Gi-Oh! stuff that Vanguard V will go down the path of every generic card game anime out there again when it doesn't have to.  I'll still give this show the benefit of the doubt and again maybe they'll do it right this time.  Or they could take notes from The Problem with Card Game Anime instead.

So on this screen we've got; GB, Tachi, Spikes, BT, Kagero, NG, OTT, Murakumo and RP.

So after Aichi gets his shit pushed in by Leon's Malestrom turn (who we don't know much about other than the 3k to the front skill) he finally rides King of Knights Alfred and mounts a counterattack and even has the plot pull a Crit trigger for him...except Leon blocks it, makes one final push and takes the win off a Front Trigger.  The two talk for a little more with Leon more or less telling Aichi that he can go higher in VG before the latter faints in a manner that is again very reminiscent of the PSY-Qualia arc of the OG series and he wonders what happened in the fight.

The memes you can make with this.

The battle between the shops is tied and its decided that Kamui will fight Gouki to decide a winner which means we'll probably see Granblue vs Nova Grappler.  If we apply logic to this Granblue wins as Nova Grappler is ass while GB is looking to be as good as Spike Brothers or Tachikaze but I'm sure the plot will say otherwise.
