Cardfight!! Vanguard V - Episode 44 Review

We begin with Aichi rising up from the dead with an edgelord expression and someone else's voice in place of his own as Naoki and Shingo chase after him.  Misaki asks wtf is going on since she beat Kourin and therefore Aichi shouldn't be a zombie anymore but Takuto quickly shuts that down by saying this scenario was a joint effort between him, Kourin and Naoki.  She further calls him out on on him making her a Called Walker and he explains that this was something that would happen the moment she was born and the only way to release her from it would require him to be defeated in a Cardfight but in doing so Kourin would lose all of her memories that had been accquired.

Meanwhile at Card Capital we see Kamui continuing to get Kyou back into the game while Kai says he can't wait around for Miwa anymore and has to go find Aichi given the situation.  Ren tells him not to do it since his plot hax powers plus zombie state have made him an impossible opponent for either of them to fight.  Kai ignores this rather sound logic and Ren decides "lol screw it" and ignores it as well as he accompanies him when Miwa arrives with Ibuki.

With or without plot armour?

People are shocked at him of all people being with Miwa but Kai says it'll have to wait as he has to find Aichi.  Ibuki refuses to let him go see him and challenges him to a Cardfight to which Miwa asks him wtf is with his attitude at the moment which causes the guy to once again go into his "I hate Vanguard" speech that we all know at this point.  After a bit of back and forth between Ibuki and an irate Ren, Kai tells our red headed yandere to go find Aichi while he stays since this isn't his fight to have.  The two kick it off by riding up to 1 and Ibuki throwing attacks out while Miwa is upset that the Ibuki, Kai and himself are back together under these circumstances before we cut to outside Miyaji High.  Ren and Tetsu fail to find Aichi but spot Rekka nearby who admits she had been ordered to watch him for the last while.  She explains that Aichi was likely ordered to head to the Tatsunagi Mansion and offers to take Ren there if he defeats her in a Fight which he agrees to.  Now we get to follow two fights at once!

A card that's free vs a deck that's overcosted.

Kai rides to Full Armored Dragon Buster and flips a crit while Kamui spots Kyou cowering in fear for some odd reason.  After that we see Ren defeat Rekka with Gust Blaster Dragon and to mine and alot of people's disappointment they didn't animate the scene of her getting completely skewered by Phantom Blaster Dragon's sword.  The show certainly has no problems giving us ass, leg and boob shots but stabbing someone through the gut?  Nope that's where the line is drawn!  Furthermore Rekka's defeat is handled badly as she literally snaps out of being a zombie and immediately gets back up and goes "meh" when we've seen other people pass out when they get freed.  Whatever.  She agrees to take him and Tetsu to the mansion and Ren admits that he's not confident that his current abilities will be enough to handle the upcoming challenges but adds that if he fails to get the job done then he knows Kai can pick up the slack.

Speaking of Kai we cut to Ibuki riding to G2 and using its ability to Vanish Delete a Rear-Guard which throws everyone into panic as such an ability is unheard of and Kyou is now screaming that he doesn't want to be erased.  Ibuki says that Kai will be next as the episode...ends?  Wait what?  This fairly important and story driven battle is going to take two episodes to tell!?  Holy shit what the hell is this proper storytelling and why am I seeig this with 6 episodes left in the season!?  My mind has been blown.
