Not quite a Battle Network Universe Reflection

To my complete surprise the blogpost on Battle Network Universe's history went over quite well.  61 hits since its post may not sound like much but seeing how my local reports average 20 at best it tells me that people are legitimately interested on hearing about the fun and glory that was my second home on the internet.

Anyway the second part of my Reflecting on BNU series will come eventually.  For now I'm going to do something different yet still related to it and that's post an excerpt from the now long dead fanfiction I wrote based on the Avidgamers stint of the site.  The Battle Network Universe fanfictions were really popular among the members during the time the site was a thing and they were fun as hell to write.  People got a huge kick out of seeing how I would write their characters in my own special way while also trying to keep as true to how they actually played them out as possible.  It let to some really interesting perspectives and in some cases I handled the character better than the actual creator did.

Reading over the story again from the start to where I left off was also interesting as for one thing the fic is now 10 years old and I spent 3-4 years working on it!  This means that there are no doubt changes in my writing style when you compare the early chapters to the later ones or any chapter to my more recent works like X-Stars.

Anywho about what I'm posting.  This is Chapter 2 and all it does is introduce a few new, original characters in alongside the already established Canon characters.  Despite BNU being set in the BN series (Pre-BN5) I ended up making the fanfiction set in the NT Warrior Anime largely because I liked Cross Fusions and planned on fitting them in someday.  Sometime after the end of Axess (but before Stream) peace has returned and such.  Except not!  Terrorists claiming to be fighting for the environment are attacking places violently and citizens are being warned to flee if they encounter them.  How will this have an effect on the otherwise sunshine and smiles that is Lan Hikari's school life?  Well...

Boy do I sure love burgers! Dex exclaimed as he finished eating a cheeseburger in the cafeteria with the others.
I think Lan likes them even more, Yai said with a sigh.
Mayl nodded as she watched Lan wolf down several burgers in less than a minute, burping after every third burger.  This enticed sweat drops from all three of them.
Wow, those burgers must be good, commented the blue haired girl with a sweat drop of her own as she stood in line waiting for a chance to gain a burger of her own, Maybe Ill try one.
She moved down and bumped into something, or rather someone else.
Eeep! she shrieked quietly while stumbling back.
She quickly brushed off her white shirt, particularly the ruffles on her sleeves while checking her blue capris pants for anything that fell out.
Oh, sorry about that! a voice said, causing the girl to look up.
A tall kid with brown tinted blonde hair, green eyes appeared to be fourteen years old-two years more than her.  The boy was dressed in simple garb: a loose white t-shirt and a pair of beige cargo shorts.  Like her, he was waiting for burgers.
Hehe, no problem, the girl said as she rubbed her shoulder, I was just distracted a bit.
Oh you mean by that? the other remarked, pointing to the frenzy over by Dex, Mayl and Yai.
Yup, she replied while stealing another glance, Wow, he sure can eat.
Looks like this is your first time watching Lan Hikari eat, the older boy said with a sigh, Believe me, it gets worse.
Really? the girl asked with widened eyes, Whoa.
Yeah…” was the response as both were silent for a moment before the boy asked, You new around here?
What?  Oh, yeah, the girl asked, albeit surprised, Names Miaka Ryuzaki.  My father was transferred over to Scilabs a week ago so we had to move.
I see.  My names Ken, the boy replied as he brought up a PET, And this is my Net Navi, MirrorMan.
Miaka saw on the screen a Navi that looked similar to Ken but with armour segments similar to a knights, except they had a glass-like appearance.
Hello, his Navi said with a wave, enticing Miaka to bring up her own PET.
On the screen was a Navi that looked like a young girl.  Strands of short hazel hair peeked out from the bottom of her pink helmet along with two bangs that hung beside her cheeks.  Her body was dark pink with chest, arm and leg armour of a higher shade.  Mounted to her back was a sword with a pink handle and wing shaped hilt.
Hiya!  Im Sakura! the green eyed Navi exclaimed with a cheery voice.
Nice to meet you Miaka, Ken said as the two received their food and stood.
I got to get going now, he said as he looked to the door, I have to go study for a test after lunch.
He sighed before walking on, leaving Miaka by herself.
Nice guy, Sakura said as the girl walked around, looking for a seat.
What!? Lan exclaimed as he stood up with his PET in hand.
Miaka looked around and fixed her eyes on him, along with half of the students in the cafeteria.  Lans facial expression told everyone that something was gravely wrong, prompting her to creep over to eves drop on his conversation with MegaMan.
Yeah, several of the trees are gone already and the Net Navis there are having no luck at all stopping him, the bomber said with his arms crossed, We have to get there!
Then lets go! Lan said as he ran off, shooting past Miaka.
Wha!? she shrieked again, spinning several times on her heel from the speed of his dash.
She finally stopped a moment later, stumbling around with a loss of balance.
Are you alright? a voice asked, snapping Miaka out of a trance.
Yeahjust give me a moment, she groaned while shaking her head and turning to the voice.
            It was Mayl.
Im so sorry, Lan didnt mean to do that, she said while looking down.
            Do what?
Mayl pointed to Miakas shirt, which was now plastered with ketchup, relish and cheese from the burger.
Oh no…” she said with dot-like eyes, Moms gonna kill me…”
Dont worry, we can help, Mayl replied as she led Miaka out of the cafeteria with Yai following.
What just happened? a kid asked to Dex.
I dunno, MegaMan got a message from an anonymous person that N.O.E.T. was attacking the Forestnet, he replied as he looked to his PET, The person said AxeMan himself was tearing the place up.
He glanced at a window where he saw Lan roller-blading over the horizon, heading over to stop the chaos that was blooming in the forest.

Sniperman and Vulcangunman stood back to back, shooting down wave after wave of Mettaur viruses that attacked the network of the Techno-Forest.  They both battled hard as a large, gold plated Navi rushed at them with an axe of immense size and swung hard, causing them to scream in pain as they were logged out.  The Navi landed and spun his weapon around a few times before placing it onto his back.  His height was astounding, nearly matching Knightmans and his muscled body made it clear that he was in great condition as well.  His armour fitted his brown under suit comfortably, allowing the best mobility possible.  His helmet had and axe mounted to the top, a blade pointing out to his left and right side.
Good work, said a deep and rugged voice.
A man stood holding onto a PET that was jacked into one of the machine/plant-spliced trees of the forest.  He wore a toque over his short, brown hair, a white t-shirt under a plaid red sleeveless vest, brown working gloves, blue jeans and a pair of brown working boots.  Anyone who saw him would have immediately called him a lumberjack.
Thanks Jack, the Navi said as he walked up to a cybernetic tree and readied his axe.
In one motion he cleaved through it, cutting off the data feed to the tree Jack had jacked the Navi into.
Jack-out AxeMan, the lumberjack said as he pulled his jacking port out of the tree, Now lets move before Netbattlers arrive.
Jack walked towards another tree, leaving a path of dying trees behind.
Jack in AxeMan!  Power up! he shouted while shoving his connector into the tree-port.
AxeMan beamed down in a ray of yellow and brown in a floating network.  Cybernetic bushes, grass and a few trees could be seen.  Ahead of him was a large neon green tree, one that was the very life of the spliced trees of the forest.  Like the previous ones, if this tree were felled, then the actual tree AxeMan was in would eventually die.
First a round of viruses…” Jack said as he fiddled around with his PET.
The sky above AxeMan rippled like a pond as pixels of data began to part, revealing a gate into darkness.  Dozens of Mettaur and Swordy viruses fell from the hole and landed in various spots of the net area, immediately attacking whatever they could strike on the spot.  AxeMan sighed as he made his way over to the neon tree.
Dont you think this is going a little too far? he asked his operator as he gripped his massive axe.
I do, but you know how the other guys are, Jack replied as he shook his head in disappointment, They feel so threatened at the moment that theyre willing to throw out the book of morals just to get a point across.  Its really starting to disgust me.
A compassionate terrorist, I never would have guessed, a voice quipped nearby.
Jack jerked his head around, searching for whoever was eavesdropping on his conversation with AxeMan.
Whos there? he demanded, checking for any signs of an ambush.
Just me, said the voice of a younger man with white and black hair.
He walked out from behind a tree with his hands in his camouflage pants before adjusting his red vest that he wore over his black shirt.
Blaze? Jack stated in surprise, I heard you were out of town!
I am, so to speak, was the reply as he brought out his red PET, I figured Id stop by for a picnic and a few Netbattles before I left.  Something wrong with that?
Oh no, by all means do what you wish, just later, the lumberjack replied, There were a few guys running around here a few moments ago.  Im pretty sure youd get a good fight out a few of them.
Or you, the other person replied as he pulled out his connector cord and walked closer to Jacks position, That and youre wreaking havoc in the area, something I cant allow you to do.  Jack in ProtoMan!  Power up!
On the spot AxeMan stood not too far from a red Net Navi with his arms crossed.  He could see himself in the Navis sunglasses as a wind blew his long grey hair like a scarf.
I wasnt expecting to fight the N1 Grand Prix winners here, AxeMan said as he looked up, Cmon Jack, we can do this.
The lumberjack stood for a moment, contemplating the thought of fighting against a team with a reputation like the Champions.  His mind was torn between the glory of battle and the duty that he had accepted long ago.  He thought for another moment, and made up his mind.
Fine, ready yourself Chaud Blaze! Jack stated as he gave him a competitive glare into the younger persons blue eyes.
Lets do this, Chaud replied as he brought up an object and slapped it into his PET, Longsword Battle Chip in!  Download!
ProtoMan charged at the enemy and brought his right hand to his chest as it shifted into red light, morphing into a long cyber blade.  He leapt up, wound his arm back and made a vicious chop at AxeMan as he came down from the air.  The N.O.E.T. Navi quickly rolled under the attack with a surprising amount of agility that a Navi of his size would normally not have.
Hes fast? ProtoMan pondered as he whipped around and spotted AxeMan closing in with both hands holding onto his main weapon.
Get some distance ProtoMan, Chaud advised as he dug into his pocket for another chip, If he can roll like that, then theres a good chance he could swing just as quickly.
Point taken, the red replied as he back flipped out of a harsh swing and catapulted himself off a tree, quickly swiping at the enemy as he came in close.
AxeMan used the momentum of his massive swing to spin on his heel, adding more speed to his attack as he smacked ProtoMans attack off with enough force to knock the Navi away from him.  ProtoMan quickly regained his balance in the air and twisted around to land gently on his feet.  He turned around to face AxeMan.
Looks like we underestimated you, he said to the enemy while assuming an attacking stance, Never expected someone so cumbersome in appearance to be so fast.
Most people tend to lose before they realize that, AxeMan replied coolly as he shifted into a defensive stance.
However we cant keep this up for much longer, we still have a job to finish! Jack shouted as he slapped a Battle Chip of his own in, Wood Tower!
AxeMan slammed his fist into the ground, causing it to shake on the spot.  ProtoMan looked around as cracks started to open up everywhere he could see.  Massive steaks erupted from the ground, impaling and deleting many of the viruses that were attacking the area.  ProtoMan himself leapt around to avoid becoming a pincushion.
Jack himself threw a smoke bomb during the incident, escaping with his jacked out Navi in his hands and moving towards another area.
Well finish the battle later, right now I have to finish my job! he shouted over the distance, But I did leave you a present!
Chaud coughed as the smoke cleared.  He fanned away any remaining smoke from his PET so he could observe what Jack meant.
            Joy…” he grumbled.
Another wave of Mettaurs fell from the sky, strengthening the numbers of the virus attackers by tenfold.  ProtoMan stood as his Longsword vanished, cracking his knuckles.
A beam of pink light struck one, causing it to explode into a storm of data pixels.  ProtoMan made a glance back, half-knowing who shot the beam.
Looks like the partys just about to start, said the ever-familiar blue Net Navi with his buster at the ready.
Pretty boring if you ask me, replied a voice, Lans.
He came up holding his PET and looked around.
Nice to see you again Chaud, I thought you were heading out of town, he said, unknowingly repeating Jacks statement.
I felt like going out with a bang, he replied with a sigh, Unfortunately the guy I was planning on showing the fireworks to fled and left a gift of his own.
Was it who I think it is? Lan asked, receiving a nod, Then we gotta stop him!
First we have to delete all these viruses before they can spread, Chaud replied, See that neon tree?  If it dies, the tree dies as well.  We gotta stop it from being killed.
Easier said than done, the younger boy replied as he slapped in a chip, Blaster Battle Chip in!  Download!
MegaMan unleashed a volley of golden energy shots while ProtoMan charged in with a Cybersword.  The bomber received a Cybersword of his own and went in after his rival, leaping at a pack with a spinning swing.
Haiya! he shouted as he landed, felling a dozen Mettaurs.
Take this! ProtoMan shouted as he made an inward sweep with his blade, cleaving off most of the Swordys.
Gliders and Fishys came in from the darkened sky, which MegaMan shot down with the aid of a Spread Buster chip.
MegaMan!  Aim for the gate! Lan shouted as he uploaded a Cross Blaster.
MegaMan took aim with his now red, narrow barrelled cannon and fired a concentrated beam of energy from it, piercing through a few of the airborne enemies.  The other viruses quickly caught onto Lans plan and rushed in to guard the hole while strengthening their troops.  The beam struck and exploded on contact with the enemies, taking out several dozen of them with the blast.
MegaMan and ProtoMan covered their eyes from the blast while Lan watched on, when he widened his eyes.
The gate remained with its barrier of viruses, a considerably less amount then before but otherwise a decent number.
We need a stronger attack, the boy said as he looked to Chaud, bringing up his Cybersword, Widesword and Longsword Battle Chips.
Agreed, Chaud said as he brought up his own three sword chips.
MegaMan and ProtoMan nodded as they placed their arms out.
Program Advance! all four shouted as the operators readied their Cybersword chips.
A massive beam of lightning rushed past MegaMan and ProtoMan, crashing into and deleting the rest of the viruses in one shot with an electric explosion.  The two looked back and spotted a Navi with his hands forward, lightning surging around his fingers.  With a flash of light, a ball of electricity was now floating in between his palms.
If it isnt one thing than its another, Chaud groaned as he waited to see what would happen next.

Not bad for something 10 years old.  My writing style was much simpler back then and as you can see I didn't line break for paragraphs which is something that nowadays I'd scold myself for ignoring.  I'm sure that when the time comes that I rewrite this scene it'll probably be more detailed and layered.  Miaka was unofficially introduced in the previous chapter so I didn't describer as much as I did with Ken.  I really enjoyed the interactions they had with each other and the canon cast and looking back on this I nailed Lan/MegaMan and Chaud/ProtoMan pretty well.  The chapter ends on a cliffhanger but anyone who was familiar with at the site knew who it was behind the glorious lightning beam of death.

That concludes this post.  Hope you enjoyed this trip into the past!

ABBBBBBK(

I'd like to take this moment to thank Based Helix for giving me the strength and courage needed to write this post.  Praise Based Helix.  Amen.

This weekend was weird.  Both Saturday and Sunday didn't have any real tournaments for me to play in.  Vanguard was the Binding Force of Black Rings sneak which I didn't know about due to leaving our Vanguard Facebook because I got fucking sick and tired of being spoiled all the god damned time.  I picked up the Draw Triggers for Eradicators I wanted and bought some packs of LVAL and pulled...bad foils.  After that we all went to Cameron's for card gaems where I playtested Mermails and Eradicators.  Bricked a few times with Eradicators and made the mistake of trying Vowing Reverse against Chaos Breaker Link Joker.

It's not a good matchup.

I've no idea how to go about handling the deck with Narukami at the moment.  I'm gonna need some kind of tech or alternative playstyle for them.  If I can grind out Chaos Breaker's Soul Blasts and then wipe his board with Vowing Reverse then I can possibly win it.

Or wait until Tempest Bolt Dragon becomes a thing.  NUKE EVERYTHING.

Anyway during this time there was also magical things that happened.  First was Beyblade.  BEY FUCKING BLADE.  Let it rip motherfuckers and all that!  Oh man the good feels.  After that we all went down where I got to see Gundam vs Gundam Extreme Full Boost in action;

The game is so pretty.  It's also fucking awesome.  It took me a few tries to remember how to play and I still did some sloppy work but I caught on quickly.  The Destiny Gundam is awesome, sadly moreso than the Double X.  So much pretty colours, much mech exploding, no Big Zam, such wow.

Then yeah, no tournaments for Yugioh which made me sad as I wanted to crush Locals with +1 Fire Fist before getting rid of the deck.  I ended up playing some games against Cybers and won, then played a Mirror match and won because as the opponent said while explaining why he hated mirror matches "they're skillful."

This is the same idiot though who plays every deck as something hammy while managing to win through dumb luck vs any competent player while also celebrating whenever he sacks the shit out of someone.  If you're proud of yourself because you got that less than 15% chance of opening with a one card win condition and steal the game because of it you fucking deserve to die in a fire.  As a person the guy is okay but as a player I fucking cannot stand him because of how fucking often he wins through being a fucking god damn lucky son of a bitch AND gloating about it.  That would be the same as me opening with Future Fusion and thinking myself as god's gift to man.  Fuck that mentality.

Oh and once again fuck the fucking toxic hipsters who hate anything remotely established.  The one fucknut is SO against meta/established/good ideas in favour of being "original" (even though his idea of being original has always been run the really, really shitty cards that people cut from their decks because they conflict with the engine and are just unplayable) that when I suggested he run DNA Surgery in Cyber Dragons for Chimeratech Fortress Dragon he looked at me strange and asked "is that what meta players are doing?"  I was literally taken aback by this.  I didn't suggest that because of meta relevance.  I did that because it was good theory and tech.

By the way he's already bitching about Cyber Dragons being unoriginal and meta because 3 other people are playing the deck.  Like fuck off you piece of shit.  At least Woodhouse is willing to play good decks (mostly because...okay completely because the people he copies all play good decks) but ugh.  I can't wait for when he quits just so I can stop hearing about him bitching about how decks should be made.  Maybe when Pendulum Summons come off.  The concept behind them would make his head explode.

After this escapade we go back to Cam's where I play some more games with +1 and win all of the duels where I don't get Turn 1 Royal Tributed (it happened 3/5 games and was bullshit).  I suppose I should talk about Cardcar Fire but honestly I can't say much as I only played it for a day.  It was enjoyable I admit, but perhaps it's because I haven't played control/stun decks for basically a year now but I'm starting to enjoy hammy decks like Mermail.  If I had known I was gonna pick up Mermail I'd have never gone after Tiger Kings and Wolfbarks and saved myself a great deal of money.  On the other hand Megamonkey gave me a pretty good deal for those in terms of value and well, we all know how important value is.  Based Helix agrees with me.

After that we all watch Twitch Plays Pokemon and subsequent meme pictures before peacing.  Megamonkey and I discuss custom archetypes and now I've got him all interested in trying to make an actual theme.  I've already got an entire theme done at this point barring some support buuuut I can reveal the "boss" of the deck;

Crimson-Eyes Graviton Dragon
Level 7 Dark
Dragon/Effect/2400/2000

You can banish 1 "Graviton" monster you control, other than "Crimson-Eyes" Graviton Dragon to special summon this card (from your hand).  Once per turn, you can banish 1 "Graviton" monster from your hand or the graveyard; This card gains 1000 attack, until the end phase.  When this card is banished; Special Summon it.

Props
-Yay Aqua Force.  Now I have a Dragon, Lightning and Water deck in all 3 card games (Dragons, Hunders, Mermails for YGO.  Dragons, Blastoise and Eels in Pokemon.  Narukami and Aqua Force in CFV)
-Proving that once you eliminate sacking from a duel, the better player wins.

Slops
-Gettin sacked
-Not actually playing a tourney.  I should have competed at Lolcals if only for the Astral Pack.

Locals Report - Яise of the Phoenix

First thing's first!  Let's make up a Vanguard Card because I can and I got the idea from the recent ep.

Dragonic Kaiser Vermillion
Grade 3
Attack - 11000
Critical - 1
Nation - Dragon Empire
Clan - Narukami
Race - Thunder Dragon
[AUTO] Limit Break 4 (This ability is active if you have four or more damage):When a «Narukami» rides this unit, choose your vanguard, and until end of turn, that unit gets [Power]+10000 and "[CONT](VC):This unit battles every unit in your opponent's front row in one attack."
[AUTO](VC):When this unit attacks, if the number of cards in your opponent's damage zone is three or more, this unit gets [Power]+2000 until end of that battle.
[CONT](VC/RC): Lord (If you have a unit without a same clan as this unit, this unit cannot attack).

Vermillion as a Break Ride?  Sure!  If Dragonic Overlord can pull this off I see no reason why Vermillion can't.

Dragonic Kaiser Vermillion "THE ЯE-VENGE"
Grade 3
Attack - 11000
Critical - 1
Nation - Dragon Empire
Clan - Narukami
Race - Thunder Dragon
[ACT](VC) Limit Break 4 (This ability is active if you have four or more damage):[Counter Blast (2) & Choose three of your  «Narukami» rear-guards, and lock them] Until end of turn, this unit gets [Power]+10000 and "[CONT]: This unit battles battles all of your opponent's units in one attack."
[CONT](VC):If you have a card named "Dragonic Kaiser Vermillion" in your soul, this unit gets [Power]+2000.
[CONT](VC/RC): Lord (If you have a unit without a same clan as this unit, this unit cannot attack)

I've always thought that "THE BLOOD" was an awful Crossride for Vermillion.  This guy pretty much fixes that by being able to hit everything on the board in one swing.  It may be a bit redundant for him to have this skill when the Vermillion Break Ride has something similar but this guy is designed for the turn after the Ride.

That being said onto the YGO portion of this and that would be Locals on Super Bowl Sunday.  I decided to bring out Fire Kings as it's been a few months since I've played the deck and honestly...I'm the best Fire King player here.  Woodhouse can bitch and moan all he wants about how much he's played the deck since it came out but the thing is when I play the deck, I don't suck at it :P

That and I have Wolfbarks, Yakshas and the all important Generation Shift.  People at Locals were wondering why I was so desperate to find these things that I'd pay even 2 dollars for one.  What good does the card do?

Decklist for the tournament;

3x Fire King High Avatar Garunix
3x Fire King Avatar Barong
3x Fire King Avatar Yaksha
3x Coach Soldier Wolfbark
1x Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear
1x Swift Scarecrow

3x Onslaught of the Fire Kings
3x Circle of the Fire Kings
3x Fire Formation Tenki
3x Mystical Space Typhoon
3x Upstart Goblin
2x Rekindling
1x Book of Moon
1x One Day of Peace

2x Breakthrough Skill
2x Generation Shift
1x Bottomless Trap Hole
1x Solemn Warning
1x Torrential Tribute

2x Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Tiger King
2x Abyss Dweller
2x Maestroke the Symphony Djinn
2x Diamond Dire Wolf
1x Gagaga Cowboy
1x King of the Feral Imps
1x Lavaval Chain
1x Steelswarm Roach
1x Gem-Knight Pearl
1x Number 50: Blackship of Corn
1x Number 85: Crazy Box

2x Royal Decree
2x Imperial Iron Wall
2x Skill Drain
2x Overworked
2x Mind Crush
2x Memory of an Adversary
2x D.D. Crow
1x Earthbound Immortal Ccarayhua

I ended up judging part way through so these games ended up being meaningless.  I'll still record how they really went.

Round 1 - vs Blackwings (2-0)

He opened pretty ass.  I think his only monster was a Vayu and his backrow were not the kind of things you wanted to use on Fire Kings.  I pretty much mopped the floor with him Game 1 and looped Garunix Game 2.

Round 2 - vs Bujin (2-1)

Game 1 I set up the Garunix loop though Generation Shift + Barong and it burned through his resources rather nicely since Hare is the only real thing that keeps Yamato safe from my deck.  He does break up the loop at one point but I pull out things from the deck that let me do combos with Wolfbark and Rekindling for the win.  Game 2 I pretty much die to his backrow with a Rekindling play losing to Bottomless.  Then in Game 3 I Mind Crush a Yamato and see he has the Honest and Crane right from the start.  I had to fight through a Fossil Dyna with Yaksha before setting up Garunix again.  He powers over it with Crane and Honest which is fine by me as during his MP2 I flip up Overworked since his creature still had the +2700 from Honest and I nuked his board along with my Barong.  It ended after that.

Round 3 - vs DevPro.dek (2-0)

Its the same 60 card Retard player that I've talked about in the past.  Needless to say Fire Kings push his shit in so deep I'm pretty sure that if he sneezed there'd be poop all over the table.

Bujin went on to win the entire tournament as they're damn near impossible for most of the decks here to consistently counter.  By the looks of it however Fire Kings actually have an alright matchup with the deck as it can play around their protection with Garunix looping (now easier).  I'm willing to bet Fire Fist do as well, sadly I'm only half done that deck.  My Fire Fist matchup pre siding is actually very favourable if I can dodge the BtH and Prison which is good to know with a Regional trip possibly coming up in the future.

Immediate changes I'll make to the deck consist of dropping Book for another Scarecrow.  Book is book, don't get me wrong but I think Crow just works better with the dynamic of this deck; I leave myself open while setting up my power plays.  I have 2 copies of 2500 Bujin Xyz coming in the mail and need to get Exciton Knight and Silent Honors ARK at some point but you know...money.

Otherwise I was impressed in what I saw a majority of the time.  I did get some brick hands that were difficult to outright unplayable but Generation Shift helps patch up things like opening with a Wolfbark + backrow.  It may be a -1 to pop the Wolfbark to search one but at the very least it lets you go into Tiger King on the following turn to start searching.

Props
-Finally getting to play Fire Kings the legit way.  I wish I knew about Generation Shift before.
-Schooling stun decks with Garunix looping.

Slops
-Opening 2-3 Garunix :(

Locals Report - The Rare Vanguard Edition

Not often I do a post on here that is solely Vanguard related.  Normally any CFV chatter comes at the end of a YGO Locals Report.

That said I had the opportunity to go to Locals for Vanguard this afternoon and I did just that.  I'd have written up this thing earlier but I had a shitload of errands to do that I'd been putting off all week.  Procrastination is a wonderful thing!

Not that I'm promoting that mind you.  Procrastination is a terrible thing.  I was going to say something about this sooner but I kept putting it off.  Whoops.

Anyway so I took a modified version of my Gauntlet/Descendant deck (currently named Gauntlet Dunk Dragons) with the intention of doing much better than my last experience.  I also got a couple games in with my OG Narukami Deck in and it pleases me to see that The BLOOD still can do his thing rather well.

Or maybe that's because Spike Brothers are one of the easiest decks to play against in existence.

Round 1 - vs Jewel Knights (2-0)

Right!  Because most of us play Yu-Gi-Oh! we tend to play our rounds in best of 3s depending on turnout since Vanguard is notoriously sacky and stuff.  Anyway I get off to a quick start and pressure him with Break Rides and Descendant both games.  Not much to say here.

Round 2 - vs Shadow Paladin (0-2)

This was awful.  I bricked pretty bad both games with the first one consisting of me drawing no means of offense (damage checked all my G1s/G2s, drew my triggers) vs his 3 Perfect Guards while I was Grade locked Game 2 for way too long.  I managed to hang in there but a crit put an end to that.

Round 3 - vs Ancient Dragons (1-2)

This was a mixture of his deck being a surprisingly good counter to mine and some sloppy play on my part.  Game 1 could have given me some better draws to counter his pushes while in game 3 I misplayed hard with Descendant, YOLOing away a hand of a Perfect Guard and good discard fodder for it with the hope of winning it.  I will say that it must be fucking nice though to get Critical Triggers on the first attack three games in a row.

Round 4 - vs Nova Grapplers (2-1)

Game 1 was a blur.  I didn't pay enough attention to the game to realize I used my only Perfect Guard too early and couldn't handle an Ethics Buster push so I scooped it up.  Game 2 he was Grade locked for several turns but managed to close up the gap...then I triggered his ass to hell with Descendant.  Game 3 was the best fight of the day for me as we went back and forth and I played out of my ass to keep his board under control.  After a grind I was able to put it away with Descendant.

Round 5 - vs Bermuda Triangle (2-0)

The guy as Megamonkey would say playing "a fucking shitty ass deck" and well...it showed.  He got Gradelocked both games, I made him damage check his Grade 3s and Descendant swung for over 30k with 4 Criticals.  That's the kind of anal savaging that Gustaph Max WISHED it could do.

I ended up getting third and pulling 3 shitty cards from my prizes.  Yeeeeeeeey.

Props
-Finishing with a winning record
-Getting third place.  That's better than not topping...right?
-Making a nice 20 bucks off a trade.

I've got Yu-Gi-Oh! Locals tomorrow but I'm pretty sure I'm judging it, so that one should be shorter.  Maybe I'll write when I get back.
