Cardfight!! Vanguard V - Episode 50 Review

Our episode begins with Takuto asking Aichi if he knows the importance of this fight as it is more than just a simple game of cards.  I'm pretty sure he's aware of this as most of this season has been anything but normal card games, dumbass.  Blah blah blah this is a fight between Cray and Brandt and if Takuto loses he stops being the Destiny Conductor, the girls will be freed from being Called Walkers (but lose their memories which Kourin tells Misaki she's fine with) and if he wins then Brandt will rule Cray.  Naoki once again proving to be the best character literally asks "so what?" seeing as anything happening on Cray doesn't really matter to Earth much.  Takuto says things that are basically summed up as if Brandt wins then everyone in the world will forget about Vanguard which in turn would kill the game itself.

I'm too busy laughing at these faces to be awed by this moment.

Aichi gives a hero speech about how Vanguard has changed his life and everyone else present says some other cliche/cringe things as we begin our fight...in spaaaaaaace.  Well actually Aichi's PSY-Qualia takes his spirit to the United Sanctuary where he meets Blaster Blade and we get a short moment of awe from him before he vanishes.  Blaster Blade takes this as a sign that their connection has been restored and calls for the armies to begin their attack on the invaders.  Honestly I'm a bit disappointed they didn't do more with this scene as it's the first meeting of this sort between Aichi and Blaster Blade but with like two lines to show for it.  I dunno it just feels like when the protagonist of a card anime gets the chance to speak with their ace monster they'd have a minute of talk before moving onto the next scene.  After this Aichi ends up on the Moon as he can see Earth, Cray and Brandt at the same time while Takuto explains that this will be the stage for their fight.

Is that a subtle reference to Ahmes?

The two throw down and after Aichi rides Blaster Blade we get verbal confirmation from Miwa to the group that Kai used to own the card as a child while Ibuki remarks to himself that this particular card seems to be the thing that is keeping Aichi tied to Vanguard.  He then wonders if Aichi will be the Messiah that protects Planet Cray and Earth as Takuto rides Brandt then explains his ability to reverse trigger effects (and by that I'm sure he means just Crits and Heals) which strikes the fear of god in everyone.  He attacks Aichi and while no triggers are flipped Kai points out the real problem will be on the coming turn.  Meanwhile on Cray some mysterious figure launches an attack against the Royal Paladins that erases some of the units from existence?  That's a shame.  I would have liked it if the attack just wiped the clan out entirely and in real life as well.  Aichi rides Wallfred, does RP things and on his attack flips a Crit...which means he ends up dealing no damage because of Brandt's ability.  He still manages to get a hit in which puts Takuto to 4 damage but he isn't bothered by it.  Instead he gives a villain speech as he rides into Wandering Star Hulk Deity, Brandt Ringer.

Get these hands.

For a final boss of a season Brandt Ringer does look pretty fearsome though I do have to be the asshole and say that his introduction is pretty lame compared to others.  Previous bosses like Omea Glendios, Aurageyser Doomed and Deus Ex Machina had fanstastic summoning animations and some really good background music accompanying them.  Brand Ringer just slowly rises up from the ground going "dur hur hur I'm taller than you" which I guess is supposed to be intimidating but I honestly find it to be lazy.  Given the awful look of the background characters in this episode I'm pretty sure I'm right in this.  Seriously go watch Takuto Reverse vs Aichi and when he rides Star Vader, Omega Glendios.  It's sick as hell.  Anyway Takuto goes on the offensive and Aichi flips a Heal Trigger on damage but Kai figures that since Brandt had a trigger reverse ability then Ringer should as well which is correct.  Brandt Ringer for all intents and purposes works just like the Brandt from the Original Series except replace a Stand Trigger nerf for a Front Trigger nerf.  Thus Aichi takes a damage and while he manages to survive the turn Takuto remarks that he won't be able to stay in the fight for much longer at this rate.  Then we get the return of his violin theme that played when Aichi got zombie'd as Cray itself is starting to get fire bombed by Brandt Ringer and he proudly declares that today will be the day that Vanguard disappears.
